Hans Christian Andersen

Por vezes, quando penso nas férias deste ano (que aprecem ter sido já há tanto tempo...) volto aquele dia perfeito em que fui a uma exibição fantástica do trabalho de Hans Christian Andersen, com as minhas queridas tia Qué e prima Luísa na linda Alcobaça! Que dia maravilhoso...cheio de inspiração, doçura e gargalhadas!

Sometimes thinking on this year's holidays (that seem to have happened so long ago...), takes me to that perfect day in which my aunt Qué, my cousin Luísa and I went to an fantastic exhibition on the work of Hans Christian Andersen in the beautiful Alcobaça! What a wonderful day that was...full of inspiration, sweetness and great laughs!

The knitting & stitching show, aka "heaven"

Ontem foi um dia em cheio...o dia do "Knitting & Stitching Show" em Dublin (uma feira enorme de hobbies com mostras, lojas e workshops em tricot, ponto cruz, patchwork, scrapbooking, postais feitos à mão, etc, etc)!! Oh...eu estava no céu, só a minha carteira é que sofreu um bocadinho (ok, talvez muito) :)

Yesterday we went to the "Knitting & Stitching Show" in Dublin (a great textile exhibition with workshops, demonstrations & shops covering knitting, cross-stitch, patchwork, scrapbooking, card-making, etc, etc)!! oh...I was in heaven, only my wallet suffered a little (ok, maybe a lot) :)

Foi fantástico, como sempre...o contacto com as pessoas, as novas técnicas e produtos disponíveis, as compras, o convívio com as amigas (da esquerda para a direita na foto em baixo, Stela, Litícia e Julieta) é espectacular! Diverti-me muito e a contagem decrescente para o próximo ano já começou ;)

It was fantastic, as always...the networking, the new techniques and products available, the shopping, spending time with friends (from the left in the picture below, Stela, Litícia and Julieta) was spectacular! I had a lot of fun and already started the countdown for next year's event ;)

A Julie está a tentar fazer um tapete...de uma maneira original, tricotando novelos de tecido :)

Xmas in Portugal - part I

Primeiro visitámos a parte da família que está um pouco mais longe...na casa maravilhosa da minha tia Qué e prima Luísa :) Ali conhecemos o membro mais novo da família (foto abaixo), provámos deliciosas bolachinhas de manteiga (feitas pela Luísa), rimos, falámos e admirámos o trabalho da minha tia (ver penúltima foto com arranjo de flores) :) O retrato da artista é a última fotografia.

First we visited the part of the family that is a bit further away...in the wonderful house of my aunt Qué and cousin Luísa :) There we met the youngest member of the family (see photo below), tasted the delicious butter cookies (made by Luísa), laughed, talked and admired my aunt's work (see 2nd last picture with flower arrangement) :) The portrait of the artist is the last picture.

Trapos

A minha avó Ana gostava muito de "trapos". Vivia no meio deles, sempre a fazer almofadas, mantas e tapetes de "patchwork" para dar e vender. Eram o seu orgulho. Há quase um ano os trapos da minha avó ficaram sózinhos...assim, de repente.

My grandmother Ana loved "fabric scraps". She lived surrounded by them, always making patchwork pillows, blankets and mats to giveaway or sell. She was very proud of them. Almost a year ago her "fabric scraps" were left on their own...just like that, without any notice.

Este Verão estivemos em casa da minha avó, a recordar e a dividir os "trapos" dela. Eu fiquei com alguns...lindos e já preparados para fazerem parte de almofadas ou outras coisas fofinhas :) Adoro-os! Já estou cheia de ideias e planos para eles e para todos os botões,que eu escolhi da colecção da minha avó para os acompanharem (numa caixinha que era da minha mãe).

This summer we were in my grandmother's house remembering and dividing her "fabric scraps". I got some of them...beautiful and already prepared to be part of pillows or other cute things :) I love them! I'm already full of ideas and plans for them and for all the buttons that I chose from my grandmother's collection to make them company (kept in a little tin that belonged to my mother).

Convento de Cristo, Tomar

Eu tinha que vos mostrar um dos meus passeios favoritos das férias...ao Convento de Cristo em Tomar. Por incrível que pareça (porque parte da minha família não vive muito longe), nunca tinha visitado este Património Mundial da UNESCO. Adorei! A arquitectura Manuelina, os "anjinhos", os claustros, os azulejos e, claro, a janela mais famosa de Portugal :) Que bela tarde!...

I had to show you one of my favourite trips of the holidays...to the Convento de Cristo in Tomar. Surprisingly (because part of my family doesn't live very far), I had never visited this UNESCO World Heritage Site. I loved it! The "Manuelina" arquitecture, the "little angels", the tiles and, of course, Portugal's most famous window :) It was a nice afternoon!...

Óbidos

Já alguma vez vos disse que eu adoro História e que a minha época preferida é a Medieval? Sim, é verdade...Eu adoro tudo o que é Medieval! Fiquei um bocadinho triste por não poder ter ido ao Festival Medieval de Óbidos em Julho, mas eu queria mostrar esta vila ao Thomas de qualquer maneira (eu já a visitei várias vezes) porque é muito bonita. A seguir gostava de ir a Carcassonne em França (bom, eu quero ir a Carcassonne desde que li uma reportagem numa revista de viagens há 12 anos)...talvez para o ano que vem ;)

Did I ever told you that I love History and that my favourite time in History is the Medieval time? Yes, it's true...I love it! I was a bit sad because I missed the Medieval Festival in Óbidos in July, but I wanted to show it to Thomas anyway (I have been here a few times) because it's beautiful. I would like to go to Carcassonne in France next (well, since I saw it in a travel magazine 12 years ago)...maybe next year ;)

Lisboa, Lisboa...

Uma das minhas partes favoritas de Lisboa é Belém e, desta vez, fui lá passear um bocadinho...e comer alguns Pastéis de Nata ;) Ummm...que saudades!

One of my favourite parts of Lisbon is Belém and this time I managed to visit it...and to eat some "Pastéis de Nata" ;) Ummm...I missed them!

A day with Nicholas

Há muito tempo que eu queria ir visitar a loja Nicholas Mosse em Bennettsbridge, no condado de Kilkenny... As peças de cerâmica eram tão bonitas que quase me "perdi" lá dentro, mas lá fora a paisagem chamou por mim e eu, eventualmente, saí :) Voltarei em breve de certeza!

I wanted to visit the Nicholas Mosse shop in Bennettsbridge, County Kilkenny for a long time... The ceramic pieces were so beautiful that I almost got "lost" inside but the outside looked so good that I eventusally came out :) I'm coming back soon I'm sure!

um BOM dia

Quando acordei hoje de manhã tive a sensação de que este seria um bom dia...já alguma vez vos aconteceu o mesmo? Eu adoro quando isto me acontece :)

Pois é...o sol estava a brilhar tanto (?!? sim na Irlanda) que eu decidi ir a pé para o trabalho e, depois de uma bela manhã, cheguei a casa e vejam o que é que eu encontrei dentro de um pacote na caixa de correio :) Obrigado Luísa :) Eu adorei tudo...o teu trabalho em crochet numa toalha lindíssima (oh...a ovelha é o máximo!) e a outras duas prendinhas (eu adoro blocos de papel para escrever, escrever sobre tudo e mais alguma coisa) são tão giras, e tudo em cores coordenadas e bastante "irlandesas". Tem tudo um ar tão primaveril...

Pois é, hoje acabou mesmo por ser um BOM dia :)

Eu "perdi-me" pelas maravilhosas revistas em França...a escolha era tanta e a qualidade era tão boa! Adorei as revistas da "montagne" por mostrarem muito daquilo que eu vi nos Alpes e das revistas Idées, das quais a minha preferida é a de Bébé. E claro, a Marie Claire Idées estava em todo o lado...belíssima como sempre!

I "got lost" in the middle of all the wonderful French magazines...I loved the "montagne" magazines for showing a lot of what I saw in the Alpes and the Idées magazines, from which the Bébé one is my favourite. And, of course, Marie Claire Idées was everywhere...beautiful as ever!
