Summer Time

Olá:) Desculpem não dar notícias há tanto tempo...tenho andado afastada deste espaço porque andamos a matar saudades de pessoas e espaços adorados e também a explorar e a conhecer coisas novas :) Estamos a adorar as férias...até breve! xx

Com o tricot na cabeça :: Knitting on my mind

O facto é que eu adoro tricotar para bebés...são, normalmente, peças rápidas de fazer e muito gratificantes. Esta peça, o Pebble é, na minha opinião, particularmente adorável e ideal para meninos. É já o meu segundo, desta vez para o bebé de uma amiga. Desta vez usei Malabrigo, cor Tuareg, com botões Cath Kidston e fiquei muito contente com o resultado.

E agora também tenho um novo livro de tricot preferido na minha vida, um livro muito especial da Rosa, que muito admiro...chama-se "Malhas Portuguesas" e é fantástico! Eu já andava a "namorar" este livro há alguns meses e recebi-o como prenda recentemente. Já tenho alguns dos projectos na minha lista de coisas a tricotar, sendo que o meu favorito é o da gola minderica que é inspirado em mantas que me lembro de ver em casa dos meus avós. Adoro a parte da pesquisa do livro, mas também gosto muito dos modelos que a Rosa criou. É óptimo ter um livro sobre tricot em Portugal!

The fact is that I love to knit for babies...they are, usually, quick pieces to make and very rewarding. This piece, Pebble, is adorable and, in my opinion, ideal for little boys. This is my second Pebble, this time for a friend's baby. I used Malabrigo this time in colour Tuareg and buttons from Cath Kidston and I'm very happy with the result.

And now I have a new favourite knitting book in my life, a very special book from Rosa, that I admire very much...it's called "Malhas Portuguesas" and it's fantastic! I wanted it since I knew it was going to be published and recently I received it as a present. I have already some projects from the book in my to do list, but my favourite is the gola minderica, which is inspired in blankets that I remember seeing in my grandparents house. I love the research part of the book, but I also really like the patterns that Rosa has created. I love having a book about knitting in Portugal!  

Inverno em Maio :: Winter in May

 

Já estamos a meio de Maio...na Irlanda...o que significa que ainda é Inverno, de acordo com qualquer pessoa oriunda do sul da Europa! Oh...enquanto espero que o sol e o calor (o que aqui ronda aí uns 22ºc!!) venham cá fazer uma visita, vou-me entretendo a beber chá e a comer umas bolachas degranola deste livro fantástico. Melhores dias virão, com certeza...

We're already in the middle of May...in Ireland...which means that it's still Winter, if you ask anyone that is from the south of Europe! Oh...while I wait for the sun and hot weather (temperatures of around 22ºc!!) come here for a little visit, I get to drink tea and eating some Muesli biscuits from this fabulous book. Better days will come, I'm sure...

9 meses :: 9 months

A nossa querida bebé Isabel já tem 9 meses...está tão crescida! Ela sorri muito, adora pessoas (especialmente o mano James), comer (tudo!), saber o que se passa (sempre!), brincar com brinquedos "barulhentos", rebolar, rebolar, rebolar, rebolar...ela é a bebé mais querida e nós temos muita sorte em tê-la nas nossas vidas!

Our sweet baby Isabel is 9 months now...she's so grown up! She smiles a lot, loves people (and adores her brother James), eating (everything!), knowing what's happening (at all times), playing with "noisy"toys, rolling over and over and over and over...she's the sweetest baby and we are very lucky to have her in our lives!

O quarto do James :: James room

O meu menino está a crescer depressa, depressa demais! Quis partilhar estas fotos do quarto dele para este momento ficar registado e para mais tarde recordar como era o quarto do meu menino "grande" - os desenhos de montros e "aliens" que ele adora fazer no seu quadro, os livros que ele "devora" e as histórias que lhe lemos no seu sofá, os puzzles que faz vezes sem conta, os animais que ele conta nos cortinados, as recordações nas paredes...este são os meus cantinhos favoritos do quarto do meu menino "grande"!  

My little boy is growing up really fast, too fast! I wanted to share these photos of his room so this moment could be recorded and remember later on how his room was when he was a "big" boy - the drawings of monsters and aliens that he loves to make on his black board, the books he "devours" and the stories we read him on his couch, the puzzles that he makes time and time again, the animals that he counts in the curtains, the memories on the walls...these are my favourite corners of my "big" boy's room!

Baking with Love

Ontem encontrei algum tempo para fazer uns bolinhos...uma colega tinha-me pedido para fazer algo português para um evento a nível do trabalho e decidi fazer os Queques da Concha! São muito simples, rápidos e saborosos. Consegui fazer 33, 3 dos quais em miniatura em caixinhas de dinossauros a pedido de um menino muito especial...escusado será dizer que só 22 chegaram ao evento (mais do que suficiente, não se preocupem). Eu adoro fazer bolos (e muitas outras coisas) para os meus queridos e qualquer coisa serve de desculpa para fazê-lo!

I found some time to bake something yesterday...I was asked by a colleague to make something Portuguese for an event at work so I decided to make "Concha's Queques (Portuguese Muffins)"! They were simple, quick and very tasty. I manage to make 33, 3 of which were miniature ones in little dinosaur cases for a very special little boy...it wasn't a surprise that only 22 of them made the event (still plenty, don't worry). I love baking (and making many other things) for my loved ones and I'll take any excuse to do it!

Casaquinho de Primavera :: Spring Cardigan

Finalmente a Primavera chegou à Irlanda (alguns dias de sol seguidos, mas ainda com frio) e, com ela, veio o casaquinho da Isabel. Estava quase acabado há duas semanas, mas com todas as contipações e vírus que têm andado a rondar os membros desta família, só preguei os botões e bloquiei o casaquinho há uns dias! 

É um modelo deste livro da Debbie Bliss, é simples de fazer e, embora se torne um pouco chato pelo meio (na minha opinião), fiquei muito contente com o resultado. Só fiz uma modificação ao pôr três botões em vez dos seis; achei que tornaria o casaquinho mais moderno e ficaria melhor à minha doce modelo...

Spring finally arrived in Ireland (a few sunny days in a row, but still cold) and so did Isabel's cardigan. It was almost ready two weeks ago but, with all the colds and virus we had around in the family I only managed to stitch the buttons and block the cardigan a few days ago!

It's a pattern from this book from Debbie Bliss, it's easy to knit and, although I think it becomes a little bit boring in the middle, I was very happy with the result. I only made one modification to it by having three buttons instead of the requested six; I thought this would make the cardigan look a little bit more modern and would look nicer on my sweet model...
