Ummm...queques :)

Ummm...cupcakes :)

Sim, eu devo ser a última pessoa a "cair na tentação" dos queques, mas estou totalmente rendida! Já algum tempo que andava a pensar fazer queques com cobertura que aqui se chamam cupcakes e, durante a minha pesquisa, já tinha provado muitos ;) mas não foi até folhear as páginas do livro "Cupcakes from the Primrose Bakery" (já um dos meus favoritos) que finalmente me rendi. Aqui está a minha primeira tentativa: queques de baunilha com cobertura de Lima e Coco...uau! Sabem ainda melhor depois de umas semanas um pouco duras...o nosso bebé doente pela primeira vez (já está totalmente recuperado) e o meu regresso ao trabalho ;)

Ok, maybe I'm the last person that "fell" for cupcakes but I'm totally surrendered! I wanted to make some for a while and, during my "research", had tasted lots ;) but it wasn't until I looked through the book Cupcakes from the Primrose Bakery (one of my favourites now) that I finally surrendered. Here is my first attempt: vanilla cupcakes with Lime & Coconut Buttercream...Wow! They taste even better after a couple of rough weeks...our baby being sick for the first time (totally recovered now) and my return to work ;)

Este fim-de-semana pensei...e que tal dar uma prenda aos leitores do meu blog para celebrar o meu 150º post? E que tal um livro leve e romântico? Afinal o dia dos namorados está quase a chegar...Ficou decidido! This weekend I had an idea...what about giving a present to my blog readers to celebrate its 150th post? And what about giving a romantic, light book? After all, Valentine's Day is around the corner...It was decided! Whoever would like to have this book (plus a few surprises only has to write a comment on this post saying what is the food they love :) The winner will be announced here on the 14th February.

Still on America...reading, this time.

A nossa ida a São Francisco foi a desculpa para ler um livro acerca da America. Não um livro qualquer, claro. Tinha que ser um livro interessante. E divertido. Que me fizesse rir e pensar...um livro de Bill Bryson. Adoro a sua maneira de ver o mundo e as pessoas...de analisar e criticar tudo o que vê. No caso deste livro, gostei especialmente dos capítulos "Friendly people", "Hail to the Chief", "Dumb and Dumber", "Why no one walks"...bom, eu gostei de todos mesmo :)

Our trip to San Francsico was the excuse to read a book about America. Not any book, of course. It had to be an interesting book. And funny. That would make me laugh and think...a Bill Bryson's book. I love his way of seeing the world and people...of analyse and criticise everything he sees. In this book I especially liked the chapters "Friendly people", "Hail to the chief", "Dumb and Dumber", "Why no one walks"...well, I really liked them all :)

I love Food

No outro dia, enquanto "passeava" pela Amazon, deparei-me com uma bela surpresa...e não lhe pude resistir :) Eu já adorava os livros da Tessa Kiros (este e este fazem parte da minha "biblioteca"), mas este tem um encanto especial porque é acerca da minha comida favorita, a portuguesa :) Oh...que alegria! ADORO este livro!!

The other day, while I was "strowling" through Amazon, I came across this beautiful surprise...and I couldn't resist it :) I alreday loved Tessa Kiros books (this one & this one are part of my "library"), but this book is special because is about my favourite food, the portugueses food :) Oh...the joy! I LOVE this book!!

A Tessa diz que teria ido a Portugal só pelos pastéis de nata..."esquecendo o frango com piri-piri, as gambas grelhadas, as sardinhas e os "pregos". Oh, e pelos azulejos, vinho e fado. Mas ninguém me falou do pão. Ou da simpatia dos portugueses." Muitas das coisas que a Tessa menciona no livro fazem-me recordar momentos deliciosos da minha infância...como quando eu contava os dias para comer uma bola de berlim "fresquinha" todos os sábados no café do meu padrinho Amílcar ou como eu adorava ir ver a minha Avó Ana a fazer pão no forno tradicional que tinha no quintal :) Enfim...com uma infância assim, como é que eu poderia não gostar (tanto) de comida? :)

Tessa said "I would have come here just for pastéis de nata. Never mind the piri piri flattened chicken, grilled prawns, sardines and prego rolls. Oh, and for azulejos, wine and fado. But nobody told me about the bread. Or about the kindness of the Portuguese people." Many of the things that Tessa talks about in the book remind me of delicious moments of my childhood...like when I counted the days to eat a "fresh" bola de berlim (cake) every saturday in my godfather Amílcar's coffe shop or like when I loved to go to my grandmother Ana's house and watch her making bread in the tradicional oven that she had in the backgarden :) With a childhod like this, how could I not like food (so much)? :)

This week

Esta semana foi um bocadinho deprimente em termos do tempo (acho que não vi o sol durante a semana inteira), mas foi óptima em termos de crafts e compras.
O nosso clube de tricot recomeçou quarta-feira, eu comecei a trabalhar numa mantinha de tricot para o projecto tricot du coeur e recebi livros maravilhosos pelo correio :-) Mal posso esperar por começar a experimentar/treinar com a minha nova máquina de costura e usar os tecidos que comprei em Lisboa num dos projectos destes 3 livros fantásticos!

This week was a little bit depressing in terms of weather (I don't think I've seen the sun the whole week), but it was great in terms of crafts & shopping.
Our knitting club restarted on wednesday, I've started working on a knitted blanket for the tricot du coeur project and I got 3 wonderful books by mail :-) I can't wait to start experimenting/practicing with my new sewing machine and use the fabrics I bought in Lisbon in one of the projects of these 3 fantastic books!

Shopping while on holidays III

...e eu não podia resisitir a estes dois livros. Eles são fantásticos! Ainda não os li até ao fim mas já tenho tantas ideias...eu recomendo vivamente estes livros!
